Dump Cake

I made Dump Cake last night. It is one of my husbands favorite treats that I make. I posted it on my four square and my blogger buddy (and old college friend) Laura asked "what is dump cake?"

So dump cake - the story...I got this recipe about ten or so years ago from a cookbook called "white trash cooking" not the most PC of cookbooks, but alas this was the recipe that I got, tried, and no one in the family liked it. I had made it for others too and they loved it, just not the fam.

Original recipe:
1 can of cherry pie filling
1 can of crushed pineapple
1 box of cake mix (yellow or white)
1 bar of margerine or butter

Place the can of cherry in the bottom of a pan, spread the canned of crushed pineapple over it. Sprinkle the cake mix on top of these layers. Melt butter in microwave, pour/drizzle over cake mix. Place pan in oven on 350 and bake until bubbly around the edges (usually 30 min).

My recipe:
1 can of cherry pie filling (sugar free)
1 can of crushed pineapple
1 box of cake mix (sugar free devils food)
1 bar of margerine

One difference that I also do is that when I place the cherry filling and pineapple in the bottom of the pan I then mix it together good. I think this is a huge texture difference and it also helps the dump cake hold its shape better.Sprinkle the cake mix on top of these layers. Melt butter in microwave, pour/drizzle over cake mix. Place pan in oven on 350 and bake until bubbly around the edges (usually 30 min).

*note - more butter the better, you want that butter to absorb into the top layer of the cake mix to make it crunchy and delicious.
