I would walk 500 miles.....and I can run

Okay so I didn't walk 500 miles, at least not yet, but I did RUN! Yes, I ran full out ran for around 5 minutes across campus this week. I have to admit I didn't think I could run at all and was little uneasy about trying something that I've never been able to do in my adult life, but I did it I ran! This is a major accomplishment for me and now I'm even more excited about my upcoming 5k :-) I don't know if I will run at all, but the fact that I can run now...makes training for more 5ks a little more appealing. Now, I'm not changing my goal for the 5k - it is still to finish the 5k, but if I feel up to it, I might do a little run walk action. Check back in 2 weeks to find out!

I think one of the reasons I was apprehensive in trying to run was the development of lo0se skin. Yes we all have it (at least in the WLS category) so my lose skins provides challenges that I am happy to deal with because well...its a welcomed development meaning I've been doing a lot of work on the weight loss front! So anyway my lose skin is something that I'm conscious of and it can be uncomfortable when working out so in response to that I have made the move to using compression garments for assistance, but after weeks of sweating in the TN heat I've decided to embrace the body I have today and enjoy it....lose skin an all. I'm going to work on not being so self conscious about the loose skin and embrace the life that I have that is active and beautiful. I wonder if my fellow WLS peeps embrace jiggling or have a difficult time dealing with the loose skin? Does loose skin prevent you from doing things that you want to do? Does loose skin prevent you from exercise?

  1. Great post! Congrats on the running! I have loose skin and for the most part I'm fine with it. The one part that drives me insane sometimes when I work out is my stomach area (I have loose skin there). If I don't where somewhat fitted pants my stomach area will bounce and eventually begins to hurt.. weird I know.. LOL I try not to let it keep me from doing things though!
